For your review, attached are The Delaware County Heath Department Epidemiology links for 2022 Annual Infectious Disease Summary Report and the 2021 Delaware County Child Lead Report. 2022 DCHD Annual Infectious Diseases Summary Report 2021 DCHD Child Lead Report (see also https://delcopa.gov/health/pages/lead.html) Delaware County Health Department MISSION AND ROLES Promote healthy lifestyles and prevent diseases and conditions affecting our communities’ well-being, quality of life, and economies. Epidemiology is the method used to find the causes of health outcomes and diseases in populations. In epidemiology, the patient is the community and individuals are viewed collectively. Epidemiology is the study (scientific, systematic, and data-driven) of the distribution (frequency, pattern) and determinants (causes, risk factors) of health-related states and events (not just diseases) in specified populations. It is also the application of this study to the control of health problems. Examples of epidemiological Investigations include contagious diseases like influenza (flu), COVID-19, or sexually transmitted infections food or waterborne illnesses, injuries like homicides and domestic violence, non-infectious diseases (cancer, diabetes, heart disease) environmental exposures (lead, air pollution impacting respiratory illnesses), natural disasters, and acts of terrorism. Investigations usually involve teams of disease investigators that contact affected individuals to ask questions about their exposure to factors associated with the development of a disease or condition.

The Delaware County Medical Society had a great time networking & listening to live music at a social on April 20th at Tavola Restaurant at the Springfield Country Club! It was wonderful to see everyone in person!

The Delaware County Medical Society's President Dr. June Elcock-Messam presented an award from the Pennsylvania Medical Society for Doctor's Day to Stephen Shore, MD. We congratulate Dr. Shore on his award. We also congratulate other winners in Delaware County, Dr. Sueny Seeney, Dr. Adam Walchak & Dr. Maria DeMario.

During the webinar, officials will also recognize county public health hero Dr. June Elcock-Messam. As the president of the Delaware County Medical Society, Elcock-Messam will address the importance of heart health. Elcock-Messam is a highly decorated physician and a lifelong hero for children and pediatric medicine. She is the founder of Every Child Counts, a nonprofit that provides “aftercare” for at-risk youth. People who receive CPR from family, friends, or strangers while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive are twice as likely to survive as those who do not."
